Bath, Maine -- Pine Tree Camp celebrated the grand opening of a newly constructed Recreation Hall on Sat., July 28 at 1 p.m.

Pine Tree Camp's newly completed Rec Hall.According to Anne Marsh, Executive Director of Pine Tree Society, constructing the new building was essential.

“Our camper's care and comfort is so important to us,” said Marsh.  “High temperatures and humidity can be extremely dangerous for many of the children and adults with disabilities who come to Pine Tree Camp.  Many of the buildings at Pine Tree Camp are old and in need of renovations.  It was increasingly critical for us to have a building capable of accommodating between 80 and 100 people, with Dan Barbeau, Facilities Assistant at Pine Tree Camp, cut the ribbon.adequate air conditioning.”

The new building, featuring 2,300 square feet, a solid concrete foundation, two wheelchair accessible bathrooms and central air conditioning, was made possible with help from IBEW Local 1768 of Hinkley and Huber Engineered Wood of Presque Isle.

“In just a few short weeks, the Rec Hall was completed - nothing short of a miracle,” said Marsh.  “I want to thank all those who worked so hard. Now our campers can escape the oppressive heat - so dangerous to so many - and enjoy plays, talent shows, games, dances and movies in a comfortable, cheerful and barrier-free building.”Attendees enjoyed a tour of the building.
