Bath, Maine -- The Pittsfield Driftbusters Snowmobile Club is positioned to break the half-million dollar mark in support of Pine Tree Camp this week.

The club began raising money in support of the camp for Maine people with Harvey Chesley presents trophy to Jim Dunphy of the Pittsfield Driftbusters.disabilities in 1991 under the leadership of then Fundraising chair Linwood "Red" Dunphy of Pittsfield.  That first year, the Driftbusters raised $5,551.00 and was ranked the third highest fundraising snowmobile club at the annual Snowmobile Ride-in to benefit Pine Tree Camp.

Later that year, Dunphy had an ‘aha!’ moment during a 50/50 drawing at a hockey game.  “I wondered where the fifty percent was headed,” he said.  “It was then that the idea of a 50/50 with one-half going to Pine Tree Camp was born.”

Dunphy established 50/50 contests at local Pittsfield businesses.  That year, the Driftbusters raised $23,733.82 for Pine Tree Camp, coming in first place at the Ride-in.

“The commitment of the Pittsfield Driftbusters has been amazing,” said Harvey Chesley, director of facilities at Pine Tree Camp and coordinator of the annual Ride-in.  “Their support has made such a tremendous impact at Pine Tree Camp and in the lives of the people we serve.”
