"Treehouses provide a sense of freedom. Children need escape. Climbing a tree is such a simple thing, but kids in wheelchairs get left out. Accessible treehouses enable children in wheelchairs to do what most take for granted"

Maine's only accessible Treehouse
Pine Tree Society is building Maine's only fully accessible Treehouse at Pine Tree Camp in Rome. This unique and innovative project will allow Maine children with disabilities to experience the wonder and pure joy of spending time in a real treehouse.
A magical place for Maine children with disabilities
Treehouses are magical places for children of all ages, but until now they've been places that aren't accessible for children with disabilities. Pine Tree Camp's Treehouse will be a special place where they can spend time high above the earth, where their imaginations will soar and they will discover new abilities together with their friends. Pine Tree Camp's Treehouse will be visited by children of all ages from all corners of Maine.
Being a child with a disability often means being left out. At Pine Tree Camp, we are completely committed to ensuring that children with disabilities can experience normal childhood activities in a beautiful outdoor setting. Pine Tree Camp's accessible Treehouse, along with our accessible nature trail system, remove obstacles and barriers, bringing people of all abilities together and closer to Maine's beautiful outdoors.
Our commitment to the environment
Constructing a house in living, moving trees is a sensitive undertaking. Environmental, ecological, design and accessibility issues are determined by architects, engineers and arborists to ensure that our Treehouse will not damage any trees or the surrounding environment.
The Treehouse is made possible by generous partners including:
