Students at Bangor's Fruit Street School raise money to support the treehouse

June 14, 2007

When teachers at Bangor's Fruit Street School read about Pine Tree Camp's accessible treehouse project in their local paper, they knew it was something they wanted to support. The accessible treehouse fit perfectly with the lessons the students were studying about trees as well as learning about giving to others. So, they came up with a unique fundraiser to get the Pre-K to third grade students and their families involved.

The teachers contacted Plum Creek who donated tree saplings to the school. Students, along with their families, worked to raise money for the treehouse and in return they were given a sapling.

On Thurs., June 14, the students gathered by the flag pole for a very special assembly. They presented Pine Tree Society's Erin Rice with a check for $552.23.

"They are such little people, but they have big hearts," said Rice. "We're so pleased to have their support of this project and we hope they can come visit the treehouse when the project is complete."
