Transforming Pine Tree Camp

Pine Tree Society is implementing a Master Plan for Capital Improvements to modernize the facility, ensure the care, comfort and safety of the thousands of people with disabilities served each year and enhance and expand its innovative programming. Since 1945, Pine Tree Camp has been welcoming Maine people with disabilities to the shores of North Pond for a unique summer camp experience. Today, Pine Tree Camp welcomes 700 children and adults with disabilities for an extraordinary barrier-free summer camp experience. Nearly 1000 people with disabilities are served in the spring and fall.

Pine Tree Camp's 285-acre facility is lovingly cared for, but now the buildings, many dating back to the 1960s are showing their age. Implementation of the Master Plan will ensure that Pine Tree Camp remains a nationwide leader in providing an accessible summer camp experience for years to come.

Pine Tree Camp’s Master Plan has three goals:

  • Modernize Pine Tree Camp by incorporating the highest level of building standards, including climate control, providing a year-round administrative office and connect camp buildings with communication equipment.
  • Enhance and expand program opportunities by developing program space designed around universal design concepts, expand the use of the campus for outdoor recreation and nature programming through trail development, develop destinations for exploration and create year-round usable space to provide for four-season access to the trail system and retreat opportunities.
  • Develop a long-term plan to ensure infrastructure will remain strong in the future.
