Transforming Pine Tree Camp

Phase One: 2009-2011

1. Wellness and Welcome Center
New construction
Status: Completed fall 2008
Budget: $536,000 (fully funded by Pine Tree Society)

Wellness and Welcome Center

The 3000-square foot building serves as a welcome center, houses the infirmary and administrative offices. The strategic location, right along the entrance to the heart of Pine Tree Camp, ensures that all visitors are greeted and screened. The location also ensures that emergency vehicles can access the infirmary easily and quickly.

The infirmary features hospital grade materials, sufficient storage, more sick beds and an examination room - a far cry from the open studded, cramped building that used to house Pine Tree Camp’s medical staff.

The new fully accessible building meets the latest ADA requirements. It’s fully insulated and offers central air conditioning, ensuring that all campers are safe in all conditions. The building houses a generator, an important feature in emergency preparedness. The generator ensures that campers who use ventilators and feeding tubes are safe in the case of a power outage.

2. Rebuild Staff Lodge
New construction
Status: Completed spring 2009

The 3,000 square foot building accommodates 18 staff and features 1,500 square feet of storage space.

3. Renovate Camp Pine Cone (day camp) building

Status: Completed fall 2008

The former camp administrative office was adapted to become the headquarters for Camp Pine Cone, Pine Tree Camp's day camp for children ages 5-12. The building provides an indoor space for day campers to begin the day and participate in rainy day activities.

4. Renovate Arts and Crafts Building
Status: Completed fall 2008

Arts and crafts had been housed in a dated building located where the Wellness and Welcome Center now sits. Now situated in the former Infirmary, the building was completely gutted and renovated to meet the needs of the arts and crafts program. Skylights were added to increase the natural light.

5. Drainage improvements on camp road
Status: Completed spring 2009

6. Dining Hall
New construction
Status: Scheduled to break ground fall 2010
Budget: $1.5 million

Dining hall rendering

The dining hall is the heart of Pine Tree Camp in location and spirit. The entire camp gathers there three times a day to share a meal. The building, parts of which date back to the 1950s, will be torn down and rebuilt. The new building will feature insulation, proper ventilation systems and central air conditioning that can be utilized on oppressively hot days.

The dining space itself will be larger, as will the bathrooms, so campers are able to more independently navigate the building. The kitchen will be strategically designed with the essential functions of the kitchen area in mind, creating an efficient space in which the staff will be able to meet the dietary needs of campers.

A lower level, accessible from the outside of the building, will house Pine Tree Camp's laundry facilities and a multi-purpose area. Existing laundry facilities are no longer adequately meet camp's laundry needs. The multi-purpose area will be large enough to hold an entire cabin, offering space for rainy day activities.

7. Rebuild Camper Cabins 1, 2 and 3
