Eligibility Criteria
Camp Communicate campers must meet these eligibility requirements:
- Be between the ages of 8 and 20
- Use a high-tech augmentative communication device
- Be accompanied by a parent or caregiver
- Be free of inappropriate sexual behavior
- Be able to adapt to staff supervision ratio when needed
- Be free of medical conditions that, in the opinion of our medical staff, may represent a danger to himself/herself or others. Each applicant will be judged on an individual basis, but as a general rule, A CHILD IS NOT CONSIDERED A CANDIDATE FOR CAMP IF HE/SHE IS JUDGED TO HAVE A MEDICAL CONDITION ASSOCIATED WITH A HIGH RISK FOR COMPLICATION OR INJURY TO HIMSELF/HERSELF OR OTHERS.
Camp Communicate will offer parallel programs - one for children ages 8 to 14 and the other for teenagers/young adults ages 15 to 20. Enrollment is limited to 10 participants per program, or a total of 20 participants. A limited number of out-of-state applicants will be accepted during the Early Acceptance Period.
Early Acceptance Date
Fifteen spaces will be reserved for Maine families through the Early Acceptance Date (May 31, 2008). Five out-of-state campers will be accepted on a first come, first served basis during the early acceptance period. Any additional applications for out-of-state campers will be placed on a waitlist until Open Enrollment (June 1 through July 15, 2008).
Open Enrollment
In-state and out-of-state campers will be accepted on a first come, first served basis throughout Open Enrollment (June 1 through July 15, 2008).
