Outcomes
Camp Communicate is designed to support children who are currently using AAC. Campers will acquire new skills while participating in a typical summer camp environment with their peers.
Each camper will attend with one parent/caregiver. The child’s parent/caregiver will build their skills so that they can more effectively use the devices in home and recreation setting. Increased use of the device at home will foster more proficient use at home and in school. Moreover, parents will have the opportunity to share information and strategies in a supportive environment.
Staff and volunteers, which will include speech language pathologists and special educators, will take part in an intensive full day training on AAC prior to the weekend. Following the training, real life experience with AAC users and their families will provide valuable hands-on experience.
