Videotaped Sessions

Policies

General

  • Providers must request sign language interpreting services through the Interpreting Services scheduling office. We are unable to process requests made through the on-site interpreter.
  • Assignment changes must be reported to the Interpreting Services scheduling office as soon as possible.
  • Discounted rates may be negotiated for volume assignments and for not for profit agencies.

Fees/Billing

  • Fees are based on a one hour site plus one hour travel time. Assignments that go beyond a two hour minimum are billed to the next quarter hour
  • “No shows” and assignments ending prior to the requested time are billed at the contracted amount including travel.

Cancellations

  • There is a 2 business day cancellation policy; any request cancelled with less than 2 business days notice will be billed at the contracted request time plus travel.
  • Assignments of four (4) to eight (8) hours cancelled with less than five (5) working days notice will be billed at the contracted rate and time.  Extended assignments of at least two (2) full business days or longer that are cancelled with less than 10 working days will be billed at the contracted rate and time or as negotiated at the time the request is made. Cancellations for assignments of less than four (4) hours received with less than 2 business days notice will be billed at the contracted amount.  Both situations include site time plus travel time.
  • During an assignment, if the interpreter is dismissed prior to the end of the contracted time, the fee for the previously agreed upon time plus travel will be charged.
  • Requestors must directly inform the Interpreting Services office of any cancellations.  We are unable to process cancellations made through an interpreter or the Deaf or hard of hearing clients.

Number of Interpreters

As a general rule, the number of interpreters referred will be agreed upon in advance by Interpreting Services Schedulers and the requestor based on the nature of the assignment. 

Interpreting Services standard practice is:

  • One interpreter for requests of one hour or less depending on the situation.
  • Two interpreters for requests requiring continuous interpreting for more than one hour or when the content is very dense.  Also, two interpreters are scheduled for formal and/or platform settings and certain legal assignments.
  • Additional interpreters as needed for special needs (i.e. deaf-blind, large audience, varying communication needs, use of Native Language Consultant, etc.)
