The Kids’ Project meets unique needs at an affordable price

Custom Therapeutic ChairWhether you would like to adapt a standard item or have a unique item in mind, The Kids’ Project would be happy to work with you to create a piece of adaptive equipment that will fit the specific needs of your child at an affordable price.

A custom-designed piece of equipment developed in collaboration with your child's physical and/or occupational therapist will provide the most appropriate fit for your child. Since The Kids' Project volunteers donate their time, we are able to offer high quality wooden adaptive equipment at prices that are far below that which is available commercially.

The volunteers at The Kids' Project can build a wide variety of adaptive furniture and equipment including:

  • Adaptive furniture, including chairs and beds
  • Changing tables
  • Vertical, Prone and Supine Standing Frames
  • Hard-to-find wooden equipment, built to your specifications
  • Affordable alternatives to commercial equipment

The Kids’ Project makes ordering custom equipment simple:

  1. Each custom order begins with an initial phone consultation to determine if The Kids’ Project is the best resource to meet the child’s needs.
  2. Following the initial phone consultation, The Kids’ Project will send a custom-order packet that will walk you through gathering the necessary information. Custom Corner Chair
  3. Once the completed packet has been returned to us, The Kids’ Project will create design sketches, calculate a price estimate and determine a timeline for the project. (Please note that most prescriptive items take 6-8 weeks to complete.)
  4. During this stage, The Kids’ Project may need to consult with the child’ s physical and/or occupational therapist to ensure that the equipment will meet the child’s unique needs. After approval from the child’s therapist, the project will be assigned to an experienced volunteer woodworker.
  5. The Kids’ Project will continue to communicate with you throughout the design and construction process to ensure your satisfaction with the finished product.
