Bath, Maine -- The Old Goat in Richmond raised $2100 for Pine Tree Camp in its fifth Annual Charity Golf Open at the Country Fareways in Bowdoin. Fifty-one golfers and a team of volunteers helped to make the day a success.
"This was our 5th annual tournament and we plan on running it every year that we are in business," said Scott McIntire, owner and operator of The Old Goat. "In the past we have picked a different charity each year, that may change."
This year proceeds benefited Pine Tree Camp, a program of Pine Tree Society. Pine Tree Camp, located in Rome, offers Maine children and adults with disabilities an extraordinary summer camp experience. During their stay, campers have the opportunity to experience typical summer camp activities adapted to meet their special needs.
Since it opened in 1945, Pine Tree Camp has never turned a camper away due to inability to pay tuition. All proceeds from The Old Goat Golf Open will be used for tuition assistance next summer, ensuring that the camp’s Open Door Policy remains firmly in place.
"It's a great way to have fun with the Old Goat community and do something for a good cause," said McIntire.
Pine Tree Camp offers Maine children and adults with disabilities a fully accessible summer camp experience. Pine Tree Camp, located on the shores of North Pond, was established in 1945 as a summer therapy outlet for children with disabilities. Over the years, the camp has evolved into an innovative barrier-free environment offering fully accessible recreation to people with disabilities throughout the year. The camp features 285 acres, 34 buildings, about two miles of accessible nature trails and more than a mile of waterfront.
Pine Tree Camp is one of the many programs of Pine Tree Society. For 73 years, Pine Tree Society has been providing Maine children and adults with disabilities the opportunities and the means to create better lives for themselves and their families.
