Is there a registration fee?
No, there is no registration fee for the Paddle for Pine Tree Camp.
Is there a minimum amount that I need to raise?
The Paddle for Pine Tree Camp is a fundraising event designed to help Maine children and adults with disabilities attend Pine Tree Camp, a fully accessible summer camp. It costs $1,330 for our campers to attend a six-day session, and we are committed to offering the Pine Tree Camp experience to all who can benefit, regardless of their ability to pay tuition. Be an important part of this tradition by raising at least $50 (or $100 if you're planning to participate in both trips). This minimum requirement ensures that Pine Tree Camp will be able to continue our Open Door policy. We'd be happy to support your fundraising efforts! Just contact Kristina Therrien at (207) 443-3341, ext. 108 or ktherrien@pinetreesociety.org.
How can I raise enough pledges?
Raising
the Paddle for Pine Tree Camp's minimum $50 pledge is so much
easier than you might think! That's only 10 $5 pledges, or five
$10 pledges. Once you start asking, you'll see how easy it is.
You'll probably end up raising more than you thought you could,
so take another look at our prize structure. Most of all, you'll
be raising funds to allow children and adults with disabilities
to attend Pine Tree Camp, the greatest prize of all.
Try asking friends, co-workers, neighbors, acquaintances from church, clubs, and businesses you frequent
How do I ask people for money?
Remember, the worst thing can happen is that they say, "no thanks," but
odds are, they won't! Just review our fact sheet on the back
of your pledge envelope, and tell them a little bit about the Pine
Tree Camp-they won't be able to resist, and they'll be enthused
that you're willing to help them support the event by paddling
for them, and Pine Tree Camp!
How do I describe Pine Tree
Camp?
Not sure how to describe Pine Tree Camp? A great first step is to watch our 10-minute video. Then you can see Pine Tree Camp is action! Click here to watch our video or contact ktherrien@pinetreesociety.org to get a copy mailed to you.
Pine Tree Camp is an extraordinary summer camp for children and adults
with disabilities. The 280-acre facility in Rome, Maine is fully adapted
so that all campers, regardless of their ability level, can fully-participate
in traditional summer camp activities like fishing, archery, nature
trail hiking, camping overnight in a tent, swimming, drama and, of course,
paddling.
Pine Tree Camp began in 1945 with the philosophy that all who could benefit from the programming would attend, regardless of their family's ability to pay tuition. Over the years that policy has remained firmly in place because of the support of generous people throughout Maine and beyond. All proceeds from the Paddle will go to the Pine Tree's Campership Fund which will benefit those attending this summer.
What's the easiest way to raise pledge funds?
There are a few ways, but we suggest you email, call or write everyone you know with a simple request to pledge you in the Paddle for Pine Tree Camp. Include brief information about the event, about Pine Tree Camp, and how they can send their checks to you-you'll be amazed as the dollars arrive in your mailbox! Feel free to send them a link to our website. (Remember, checks should be made out to "Paddle for Pine Tree Camp.")
- Ask your employer if they match donations to charitable causes.
- Start a Paddle Partner Team with three or more friends, co-workers or family members! You'll have fun raising money and paddling together!
- Collect your pledges at the time you ask for a donation. This will save you time tracking down your friends after the event.
- Think of creative ways to raise money through your own talents
Email ktherrien@pinetreesociety.org for more helpful hints. Together, we can raise record amounts for the children and adults of Pine Tree Camp!
