Assistive Technology Demonstration and Loan
In partnership with the Maine CITE Coordinating Center, Communication Pathways is working to improve access to Assistive Technology (AT) tools by offering a variety of AT devices and tools for demonstration and loan to Maine people with disabilities.
Assistive Technology is defined as “any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially or off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities.” For a person with a disability the use of Assistive Technology means fuller, meaningful participation at school, home and in the community.
Communication Pathway’s Demonstration and Loan will increase accessibility to and awareness of Assistive Technology while providing learning opportunities to support informed decision-making. A wide range of AT devices and tools are available. Through the process of Demonstration and Loan followed by an Evaluation, Funding Support and Training, Communication Pathways supports every step of Assistive Technology decision-making, acquisition and implementation.
