Ben: It’s a loving place
“I just know it’s the best thing for him,” said Ben’s father Bruce. “It’s a real growing experience.”
Ben is 14 years old and started going to Pine Tree Camp a few years ago. He has a one-on-one aide at school and at home, and his coach Justin came with him for the week.
“Pine Tree Camp is very accommodating,” Bruce continued. “Ben is on the severe side of the autism spectrum and has limited speech and difficulty expressing himself. He also has some issues with bolting.”
Which is why it was important for his family that Justin could be there with him.
“For the most part, his life is closely monitored,” said Bruce. “An experience like Pine Tree Camp helps him to just be a boy and stretch the boundaries a bit and really grow. From the expression on this face when we approach camp, I can see his excitement. Everyone is warm and it feels like coming back home. It’s a loving place and you just know you’re in good hands. They love what they’re doing. You can tell. I’m so glad and so grateful that the Pine Tree Camp experience is part of his life, and we’re committed to keeping it going.”
