“She loved Cabin Wars!”
That’s what Kylee’s father Donald said was her favorite part of camp this year.
“It was Super Hero week and Cabin 4’s theme was Wonder Woman. They earned points for decorating, and her cabin won.”
For Donald, the highlight of the week is seeing the absolute joy she experiences and how much fun she has.
“This week is about Kylee.”
Kylee is 14 and has been attending Pine Tree Camp since she was eight years old.
“She’s already counting down the days until next year.”
Kylee’s family stays in Cabin 6 and has made friends with the other families who come that week.
“That’s a really neat part of if. We’re getting together with some of the families for a barbecue in a couple of weeks.”
Her sisters enjoy getting to know the other campers.
“My oldest daughter has become very good friends with one of the campers, and my youngest helps out other campers and has learned how to communicate with both non-verbal and verbal kids. Kylee’s friends also come to visit.”
Staying at camp not only gives her family the chance to be on hand to take care of her needs, but has also given them the gift of compassion and empathy.
“People have a lot of challenges in their lives and, honestly, people are all the same and no one wants to be treated differently. After camp is over Kylee always says to me ‘It’s the one place where I’m not different.’”
